Speed Cameras to Improve Pedestrian Safety
The SFMTA wants to install speed cameras in order to improve pedestrian safety and encourage drivers to slow down – “according to Walk SF, speeding drivers are the number one cause of traffic injuries in the city, and are responsible for ten times the number of pedestrian injuries than drunk drivers.” The cameras would be installed “near schools and other areas where pedestrian safety is an issue” and tickets for speed limit violators would cost $100.
